Merrill W. Lockfaw, vice president was elected as a County Commissioner in 2010 and is currently serving his second term in office. Commissioner Lockfaw is also serving as vice president for the second consecutive year. He represents the County Commissioners as their alternate representative on the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) Legislative Committee, as 2nd Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of the Tri-County Council (TCC) for the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland, and as a member of the Worcester County Liquor Control Management Committee.
Commissioner Lockfaw is a former Worcester County employee, and he retired after serving 19 years as the Roads Superintendent. In addition, he was employed for 18 years as a plant operations manager and then general manager for an open pit mining operation in Pocomoke City. After serving four years in the US Air Force, he began a management career with a leading poultry company on the Eastern Shore, at the same time he managed his family farm and poultry operations. Commissioner Lockfaw has been active in the Pocomoke Fire Company for 43 years, having served as chief as well as holding other elected positions. He was inducted into the Firefighters Historical Foundation of Delmarva Hall of Fame in 2013. He is a member and Deacon at Lynnhaven Baptist Church where he previously served on the committees for finance, nominating, building and grounds and transportation. Commissioner Lockfaw lives on his family farm outside Pocomoke City. He was married to his wife Sara for 48 years before she passed away in 2014. The couple has two grown children, Wesley Lockfaw and Kimberly Gausmann, and six grandchildren.
