Mission Statement
The Worcester County Jail operates in the interest of public safety to provide a safe, secure, and humane place of confinement for those persons committed by any Judicial System. The jail maintains custody of those persons sentenced by the courts and those in a pre-trial status who are financially unable to post bond or those who by virtue of the court are to be held without bond.
PREA Statement
The Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), a federal law enacted in 2003, was created to eliminate sexual abuse in confinement The National Prison Rape Elimination Commission developed recommended national standards for reducing prison rape.
The Worcester County Jail has a zero tolerance for the Sexual Assault or Abuse of Inmates/ Detainees. Reports of sexual assault or abuse may be made to correctional staff, medical personnel or volunteers Reports of sexual assault or abuse may be made on behalf of inmates/ detainees by family members and or friends. Allegations of Sexual Assault or Abuse will be investigated by WCBI in conjunction with WCJ PREA investigators in accordance with the PREA standards.
The Worcester County Jail collects aggregated sexual abuse data annually in which the personal identifiers are removed to protect all victims and the accused. The information is available for review by submitting an open records request from the Worcester County Commissioners Office.
