Starting August 1 Worcester County to Remove Snipe Signs in Rights-of-Way

Snow Hill, Maryland (July 18, 2024) – Beginning August 1, 2024, Worcester County Public Works crews will begin removing roadside snipe signs from within public rights-of-way.

Snipe signs are off-premises signs that are tacked, nailed, posted, pasted, glued, or otherwise attached to trees, poles, stakes, fences, or to other objects. Snipe signs are not permitted in any public right-of-way, which is either state or county-owned land.

Under State law (MD Code, Transportation, § 8-605) the County is authorized to remove these signs. This includes commercial and political signs. All signs removed will be destroyed.

Beginning November 1, a $25 per sign civil penalty will be issued for every snipe sign removed.

Please contact Worcester County Public Works at 410-632-5623 with any questions.
