***TRAFFIC ALERT*** STATE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION TO RESURFACE MD 611 (STEPHEN DECATUR HIGHWAY) IN WORCESTER COUNTY Motorists Can Expect Daytime Single-Lane Closures Beginning Monday, May 22

(May 18, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a paving project Monday, May 22, on MD 611 (Stephen Decatur Highway) between the Verrazano Bridge over the Sinepuxent Bay and MD 376 (Assateague Road) in Worcester County. The project should be completed by the end of June, weather permitting.

Drivers can expect single-lane closures between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Contractor Allan Myers MD Inc., will use a flagging operation, cones and barrels to safely guide motorists through the work zone. Drivers should expect significant delays during work hours and should plan extra driving time. Hot asphalt may require up to two hours to cool before drivers and pedestrians can safely cross the new road surface.

The State Highway Administration understands roadwork can be an inconvenience, but is necessary to maintain a safe and reliable transportation system. Drivers are asked to stay alert, stay focused, look for reduced speed limits as well as driving pattern changes and slow down in construction zones. Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
